RETURNS & REFUND POLICY

Old Sports Auction 


Overview

At Old Sports Auction, we take great care to accurately describe and grade every item we sell. Because our inventory consists of pre-owned, vintage, and collectible items — rather than new goods with original tags — we ask that you read this policy carefully before purchasing.


Condition Grading

All items are listed with a condition grade (Poor / Fair / Good / Very Good / Excellent / Mint) and a written description. These grades reflect our honest assessment of each item's condition at the time of listing. Minor wear consistent with age and use is to be expected and is reflected in the grading and price.


Returns

We have a 30-day return policy, which means you have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.

Accepted Returns

We will accept a return where:

  • The item received materially differs from its listed condition grade or description
  • The item arrives damaged in transit
  • The item is proven to be inauthentic following independent expert verification (see Authenticity section below)
  • You are exercising your statutory right to cancel within the 30-day window

Non-Returnable Items

The following items are not eligible for return:

  • Items where the certificate of authenticity seal or grading case has been opened, broken, or tampered with after delivery
  • Items that have been further handled, displayed, mounted, or altered after receipt
  • Items sold as part of a final sale, clearance, or auction event where this is clearly stated in the listing
  • Items returned in a worse condition than they were sent

Authenticity

Every item we sell is represented as genuine to the best of our knowledge and expertise. Where applicable, items are accompanied by certificates of authenticity or provenance documentation.

If you believe an item is inauthentic, you must:

  1. Notify us in writing within 14 days of receipt
  2. Provide an independent expert assessment from a recognised authentication body (e.g. PSA, JSA, Beckett, or a specialist agreed with us in advance)
  3. Return the item with all original documentation intact

We reserve the right to seek our own independent verification before issuing a refund on authenticity grounds.


Return Shipping

  • Change of mind / statutory cancellation: Return postage is at the buyer's expense
  • Item not as described / damaged in transit / authenticity dispute: We will cover reasonable return postage costs
  • All returns must be sent via a tracked and insured service appropriate to the item's value
  • We are not liable for items lost or damaged in return transit where tracked postage or the appropriate insurance for the full purchase price has not been used

Condition on Return

Items must be returned:

  • In the same condition as received
  • With all original packaging, grading slips, certificates of authenticity, and provenance documentation
  • Securely packaged to prevent damage in transit

Where an item is returned in a worse condition than sent, we reserve the right to reduce the refund to reflect any loss in value.


Refunds

Once we receive and inspect your return, we will notify you of the outcome within 3 business days. If approved:

  • Refunds are processed within 5–10 business days
  • Refunds are issued to your original payment method
  • Original outbound shipping costs are non-refundable, unless the return is due to our error or a transit damage claim

We aim to respond to all return enquiries within 48 hours and will always try to resolve issues directly before a formal return is necessary.


International Customers

For customers outside the UK, your statutory rights may differ. Please contact us to discuss your situation and we will do our best to assist. Import duties and taxes paid are non-refundable by us.


This policy does not affect your statutory rights under UK consumer law.
