The St Andrews Trophy is a biennial men's team golf tournament played between elite amateur golfers representing Great Britain & Ireland and the Continent of Europe.
In 2004 Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) defeated the Continent of Europe with a final score of 17–7. The teams were:
Great Britain & Ireland (Winners): Garth McGimpsey (Captain), David Denison, Rhys Davies, Jamie Donaldson, Nigel Edwards, Gary Lockerbie, Brian McElhinney, Andy Sullivan, and Gary Wolstenholme.
Continent of Europe: Wolfgang Wiegand (Captain), Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño, Alfredo García-Heredia, Francesco Molinari, Edoardo Molinari, Martin Kaymer, and Álvaro Quirós.
This particular players badge was issued to Gary Wolstenholme MBE, renowned English golfer, widely considered Great Britain & Ireland's greatest ever amateur player, known for his extensive and highly successful amateur career, winning numerous amateur titles, including the prestigious British Amateur Championship twice (1991 and 2003); as well as representing teams England and GB&I, he is the all-time leading points scorer for the Great Britain & Ireland team in the Walker Cup, with 6 appearances (between 1995 & 2005) including 4 victories. Turned professional at the age of 47 and has multiple Senior Tour (now Legends Tour) victories and was awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) in 2007 for his services to sport.
