Bert Edward The Golf Caddie by Horace Hutchinson - 1903 First Edition

'Bert Edward, the Golf Caddie' is a 1903 sports fiction novel written by the prolific English golfer and author Horace Hutchinson. Published in London by John Murray, it holds a significant place in sports literature as the very first novel ever written about golf caddies.  The story follows the life, struggles, and dry wit of a young caddie named Bert Edward, who eventually rises through the ranks to become an Open Champion.

Horace Gordon Hutchinson (1859–1932) was a highly influential figure in early golf history. He was an Oxford-educated gentleman who won the British Amateur Championship twice (1886 and 1887). Beyond his playing career, he was the dominant golf writer of the late-Victorian and Edwardian eras, publishing instructional manuals, histories, and novels.

This first edition was printed in February 1903 with distinctive "yap edges" (overlapping cloth covers). Because of its historical status, original copies are rare and highly sought after.
