Commissioned by the Life Association of Scotland, an insurance company that became famous for publishing annual calendars featuring high-quality golf prints between the 1890s and the 1920s.
The print depicts several legendary amateur golfers of the era at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club (Hoylake):
John Ball Jr.: Shown putting. He was an eight-time Amateur Champion and the first amateur to win The Open (1890). The text identifies him as the "Amateur Champion, 1910."
Harold Hilton (H.H. Hilton): A two-time Open Champion and four-time Amateur Champion.
