Vintage Postcard c.1915 - "SOSPEL - Golf Hotel, on the Links (18 holes)"

£15.00

An early 20th Century postcard, from circa 1910-1925, depicts the Golf Hotel, which was the primary accommodation for the Menton/Sospel Golf Club. The club was established around 1909 and was a prominent destination for British and French high society on the Riviera. The "18 holes" mentioned on the card refers to the course designed by Willie Park Jr., which was considered one of the most beautiful in France at the time.

Sospel, a village in the Alpes-Maritimes department of southeastern France, near the Italian border.  The 1929 stock market crash led to the club’s decline, and by 1937, the hotel building seen in the photo was converted into private apartments.  The club disappeared just prior to WW2.
