A right-handed Ladies Smooth Faced Cleek/Iron made by R. Simpson of Carnoustie, dating circa 1890-1905.
Robert Simpson of Carnoustie (1862–1923). Simpson was a legendary figure in golf, serving as the professional at Carnoustie and founding Simpsons Golf Shop in 1883—which still stands today as the second-oldest golf shop in the world.
The "R. Simpson" stamp on the back of the head, often accompanied by a "Star and Moon" cleek mark (indicative of the forger James Gourlay who made heads for Simpson), confirms its pedigree.
Fitted with a suede/sheepskin grip, in very good condition.
Shaft is in good condition, very slight curve, and complete with the Maker's stamp mark.
The head is rusted, however in good condition.
