The 1988 Open was held at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club from 14–18 July 1988. It is historic for being the first Open Championship to require a Monday finish after torrential rain on Saturday washed out the third round. Champion was Seve Ballesteros (his third Open title and final major victory).
